What does en effet mean?

Definition

This is an expression that we use very often. It means “Indeed / That’s true / It’s true / That’s right“.

How to use

A simple example: you are asked: “C’est vrai que tu as 25 ans ?” (Is it true that you are 25 years old?) you can answer: “Oui, en effet” (Yes, indeed) or “Oui, c’est vrai” (Yes, that’s true)

Note that “En effet” is formal register and “C’est vrai” is neutral register. So if you want something more informal, you can use instead: “Carrément” (Absolutely).
